create space makerspace 3D printing

create:space is a makerspace that offers all Stanford students tools and spaces for creating physical and digital projects. All resources are free for students to use while in the Learning Hub, although some require certification and/or reservations.

Open-Access Resources

You’ll find everything from hand-tools and crayons to building blocks and LEGOs in create:space. In addition, create:space offers the specialized equipment below.

3D Printers

We have two models of 3D printer available for you to use on a first-come, first-serve basis. You must use our PLA filament which, currently, is free!

Dremel 3D40

  • Build Volume: 10 x 6 x 6.7 inches (402 cubic inches)
  • Build Plate: Not heated
  • Z-Layer Resolution: 100-300 microns
  • Material: PLA (only PLA is allowed in create:space)
  • Compatible Print File Types: .G3DREM, .gcode
  • Connectivity: Desktop, laptop or USB drive

Build plates and accessories are checked out at the Tech Desk.

Dremel 3D45

  • Build Volume: 10 x 6 x 6.7 inches (402 cubic inches)
  • Build Plate: Heated
  • Z-Layer Resolution: 50-300 microns
  • Material: PLA (only PLA is allowed in create:space)
  • Compatible Print File Types: .G3DREM, .gcode
  • Connectivity: Laptop or USB drive

Ultimaker 2+

  • Build Volume: 8.78 x 8.78 x 8.07 inches (622 cubic inches)
  • Build Plate: Heated
  • Z-Layer Resolution: up to 20 microns
  • Material: PLA (only PLA is allowed in create:space)
  • Compatible Print File Types: STL, OBJ, DAE
  • Connectivity: SD card

Digital Drawing Tools

In addition to the large-screen iMacs in the Learning Hub that have specialized software for digital media production, create:space has the following digital drawing tools:

Wacom Cintiq 24 HD Interactive Pen Display

Resources Requiring a Certification and/or Reservation

While most create:space resources are open access, a few require a certification and a reservation or both. Call or email the Tech Desk to ask about availability.

create:space features a powerful VR demonstration and development station set up for use with an HTC Vive System.

HoloLens augmented reality system

We have a Microsoft HoloLens mixed reality headset. The HoloLens is for use in the Learning Hub only.
